Call Open Partnership Mobility with JSPS (Japan) 2026 – 2027

The Department of International Cooperation is launching a call within the Open Partnership Mobility program in collaboration with Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Japan, for all

researchers of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) across all scientific disciplines.

Researchers are required to identify and contact a researcher at any Japanese university or research institution who will apply for the corresponding JSPS call in Japan by September 3, 2025.

SAS objectives

  • Improvement of scientific cooperation between the two countries.
  • Stimulation of involvement of early career researchers and PhD students.

Eligibility criteria and submission

Project proposals from all research fields are accepted.

Project proposals will be submitted only on the JSPS side (regarding this information, please ask your Japanese partner). Slovak scientist has to inform the SAS Department of International Relations about the joint research project submitted on the JSPS side.

SAS research team

Each research team consists of:

  • One principal investigator
  • One or more co-investigators

All members of the research team must be employees of the SAS Institutes. Out of the whole team, at least 1/3 should be junior researchers or PhD students.

SAS financial provisions and regulations

The SAS will only contribute to the costs of the Slovak research team. The maximum financial

contribution is 12 000 EUR per mobility project per year (12 months) with maximum duration of the project of 2 years.

The program will be governed by the Mobility Financial Rules, which are available on the website of the Department of International Cooperation.

JSPS criteria for the evaluation of project proposals (submission and evaluation is done only on the Japanese side)

  • Scientific and formal quality: Quality of the project implementation (concept, approach, methodology, time schedule, outcomes).
  • Innovation potential and prospects for advancing knowledge.
  • Expected mutual benefits for both research teams.
  • Potential of the project results and their possible impact.

We recommend Slovak researchers from the Slovak Academy of Sciences to contact an excellent Japanese scientist with the aim of establishing a joint project within the JSPS Open Partnership Program as soon as possible. You should collaborate on a joint project proposal, which is to be submitted to the JSPS webpage. If the project is selected for funding, the SAS commits to contribute an amount of 12 000 EUR per project per year to support the Slovak team
